Overview

The Planning Commission is a permanent committee of five citizens who are appointed by the City Council, reside, and are registered to vote in Morro Bay. The functions of the Planning Commission are to:

  • Review matters related to planning and development
  • Develop a general plan and recommend its adoption by the City Council
  • Maintain the general plan after its adoption by the City Council
  • Develop specific plans as may be necessary to implement the general plan
  • Periodically review the capital improvement program of the City for recommendations to the City Council

The Planning Commission holds public hearings on a regular basis to consider land use matters. The Commission is also the City Council's adviser on land use planning. The City Council may choose to follow the recommendations of the Planning Commission or not. Accordingly, they may reverse or modify the Planning Commission actions or send proposals back to the Commission for further review.
