Morro Bay City Council to Vote on Contract Approval for New City Manager
Morro Bay, CA – The City of Morro Bay will vote on a City Manager contract for Ms. Yvonne Kimball at the Council meeting on June 13, 2023. If approved, Ms. Kimball will assume her new role starting August 14, 2023, succeeding Scott Collins, who departed from the City in March 2023.
A rigorous recruitment process was conducted by Mosaic Public, a public employee executive search firm. The recruitment process garnered significant interest, with a total of 41 highly qualified applicants vying for the City Manager position. After careful consideration, six candidates were interviewed by the City Council. Following the initial interviews, the Council selected two finalists who proceeded to engage in interviews with various stakeholders, providing valuable feedback to the City Council. This was followed by an additional interview with the City Council, comprehensive background checks, and thorough reference assessments.
Ms. Kimball brings an impressive 15 years of experience in city management to the City of Morro Bay. Currently serving as the City Manager for Jackson, CA since 2017, a full-service city with a population of 5,000 residents in the northern foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, Ms. Kimball successfully oversees all city operations, manages substantial budgets, has executed capital improvement projects totaling $20 million, negotiates contracts, and has spearheaded economic development initiatives.
Prior to her role in Jackson, Ms. Kimball served as the Town Manager at the Town of Dewey-Humboldt, AZ, from 2012 to 2017, and as the City Manager at the City of Bowling Green, FL, from 2008 to 2011.
Ms. Kimball's impressive educational background includes a Master of Public Administration degree with a focus on Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Central Florida. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business English from the Tianjin Institute of Technology in China.
