Junior Guards Program (ages 9+)
Registration Week March 23rd through March 27th
Monday, March 23th from 7am - 5pm will be inperson registration for Morro Bay Residents and Scholarship recipients ONLY! Must have proof of residency and prior approval of scholarship. May register only ONE (1) SESSION per child.

Junior Guards is a physical program. Participants are expected to participate in all aspects of the program, to the best of their ability, including but not limited to, physical training, swimming, and other activities as directed by Instructors. Your child's safety is of the utmost concern, therefore your child will not be asked to perform activities that he/she is not physically ready to perform. All Junior Guard instructors and aides are USLA Certified Ocean Lifeguards.
Session A: June 15th though June 26th $500
Session B: June 29th through July 10th $450
(Closed July 3rd in observance of July 4th holiday)
Session C: July 13th through July 24th $500
Session D: July 27th through August 7th $500
Sessions are 9:00am - 2:00pm Monday through Friday

Monday (MB Residents/Scholarship Day) is in person only. Registration opens @7:00am and is located at the Morro Bay Recreation Office.
Registration Tuesday through Friday (Sessions A - D) registration will open ONLINE and in person at 9am daily.

Please register with care. We have a cancellation and transfer fee of $100 to cover additional staff time required to cancel and/or make changes to your registration.
Junior Guard Registration Packet 2025
All participants will be assessed the first few days of the Beach Program and will be placed in groups according to skill. It is strongly encouraged that participants self-test prior to registering. The Beach Program test includes 100-yard non-stop swim under 3 minutes, treading water for 5 minutes, and a 15 - feet underwater swim.
Participants need to bring a towel, warm clothing, foot protection, sunscreen, hat, and a sack lunch. Surfboards are optional and must have safety fins and leashes. Participants need to supply their own transportation to and from activities and field trips. Staff can not transport participants. Parents are encouraged to accompany the program on field trips.
Junior Guard Bootcamps - Registration is open!
This program is recommended for all the Little Rippers who have taken a few swim lessons and are ready to learn water safety, build new swim skills and endurance before hitting the beach. This is an introductory program that will help build aquatics skills, confidence and endurance needed for the Beach Programs. This program is tailored for the littles that have had some swim lessons and want to develop more advanced swimming skills and preparatory ocean skills.
This program will take place Sundays from 1:30pm - 2:30pm at the MBHS Aquatic Center.
Session 1 - March 1st, 8th, 15th & 22nd - $100
Session 2 - March 29th, April 12th,19th & 26th - $100
Session 3 - May 3rd, 17th, June 7th & 14th - $100
This program is recommended for all first time Junior Lifeguards and the seasoned JG who want to strengthen their swimming skills and endurance before hitting the beach. This is an introductory program that will help build aquatics skills, confidence and endurance needed for the Beach Program. The Pool Program is tailored for the youth that have completed swim lessons and want to develop more advanced swimming skills and preparatory ocean skills. We strongly recommend participating in the Pool Program prior to participating in the Beach Program for the first time.
This program will take place Sundays from 1:30pm - 2:30pm at the MBHS Aquatic Center.

Lifeguard in Training (ages 14+ or Dolphin/Orca in 2025)
This fast paced program is for participants with previous Junior Guard experience who have been selected to volunteer. This program is for the older junior lifeguard (14+) and is an advanced program with additional challenges to help prepare them for volunteering and additionally to prepare to be staff in the future. Applications available on this website. Lifeguard in Training participants are expected to volunteer for at least one Junior Guard Session this summer season.
